Happy Half Term!

Happy Half Term

What a busy half term we have had! We are all looking forward to a bit of ‘R n R’ next week. Thanks for your support and patience this half term. I hope you have a relaxing half term break, and I look forward to seeing you all on Monday 28th February. Happy half term!

Parent Consultation Meetings

Hopefully, you have all received a letter and a text explaining how the Parents Consultation Meetings are going to work this term. Parent meetings will be taking place on Tuesday 1st March and Wednesday 2nd March and there is a combination of phone calls and face to face meetings. (The easiest way to remember is that if your appointment is during the school day, then it is a phone call; if your meeting is after school on Wednesday, then it will be face to face. If you have not booked your appointment, then please contact the school office.)

For face to face meetings, all parents should enter via the school office. Nursery parent meetings will also take place in the main building. For everyone’s safety, we will be asking all adults to continue to wear masks., in school. A copy of the original letter can be found here.

Trips

Please can you return permission slips to the school office and pay deposits, via Parent Pay, as soon as possible.

The Year 1 and 2 trip to the Wolesley Centre is on Thursday 17th March and is £16.

The Year 3 and 4 trip to Derby Museum and Art Gallery is on Friday 25th March and is £12.

World Book Day

Winshill Village Primary and Nursery School will be delivering a range of exciting learning activities to celebrate World Book Day this year. All will be revealed during the first week back after half-term! To begin our celebration of books and reading, we are inviting all of the children to take part in the competition below for a chance to win book vouchers to spend at our school Book Fair. There will be five winners altogether.

COMPETITION! Create a model or setting from your favourite book. Bring it into school on Monday 28th February (after half-term) to be displayed in the hall. Winners to be announced on Thursday 3rd March during our special World Book Day assembly. See examples here.

On Thursday 3rd March, all children are welcome to bring to school their favourite book and a soft toy (e.g. teddy bear) should they wish. We will also have a selection of popular books available in school for the children to choose from. During the day, the children will have time to share and enjoy their favourite books.

Book Fair

The Book Fair arrives in school on Tuesday 1st March. The children will be able to browse the Book Fair on Tuesday during the school day.  They will not be buying during this slot.

On Wednesday 2nd March, the Book Fair will be open after school from 3:30pm and throughout Parents’ Evening.

The Book Fair will then be open after school on Thursday 3rd March, Friday 4th March and Monday 7th March from 3:20pm until 4pm.

You will be able to purchase books/gifts using cash or online using a bank card.  Information on how to pay online will be available when you visit the Book Fair.

Have a look at what books will be available here.

Attendance to half term

Reception: 92.69%

Year 1: 93.89%

Year 2: 93.41%

Year 3: 93.37%

Year 4: 92.48%

Year 5: 93.29%

Year 6: 95.68%

Whole School : 93.5%

Well done to Year 6, who are the attendance winners for this half term. As you can see, attendance is still below our target of 97%, this is predominantly down to continued isolation rules and Covid restrictions, but hopefully this will improve over the coming months. Unfortunately, we continue to have a few children, who do not attend regularly, this has a negative impact on their academic progress and on their social friendships. If you are struggling to get your child to school, please talk to us, we may be able to help!

To remind you of JTMAT procedures regarding attendance: Attendance below 90% will lead to a meeting with myself; attendance that does not improve or is of concern could lead to a meeting with Michelle O’Dell, the JTMAT attendance officer. Holidays during term time are not authorised.

Uniform

A gentle reminder about uniform expectations…

Normal School Days: White or Red Shirt; Black/Grey Skirt, Dress, Trousers or Shorts (or summer dress); red jumper and black shoes

PE Days: White or Red T-Shirt; Black/Grey/Dark Leggings, Tracksuit Suit bottoms, shorts; trainers and wearing their school jumper.

We prefer the children not to wear jewellery, nail varnish, make up or large hair bands.

I will be sending out letters to individuals, who do not adhere to the school uniform policy, in the new half term. Thank you for your support in this matter.
