Friday 23rd April Update
Welcome Back!
We have had a fantastic start to the new school term and the children have tried hard to settle back into the routine of school. The beautiful weather has helped put everyone in a good mood, and we have started the summer term with a bang! I sincerely hope that we have a smooth term with no disruptions, fingers crossed. Have a look on the calendar at the bottom of the home page, to see what events are being planned for this term. Happy Summer term!
Parking
We have received a number of complaints from local residents about inconsiderate parking at the end of the school day. It gets very busy around school at the end of day, particularly on Brough Road and Sales Lane, therefore it is paramount that parents park considerately, for all our safety.
Please do not block residents driveways. Please do not double park, as this restricts traffic along the road and please do not be abusive to residents when they speak to you.
To help with the parking at the end of day, the landlord at the Jubilee Pub has agreed that parents can use their car park when collecting children at the end of the day. This is much appreciated, thank you.
Also, as the weather is getting nicer, you may want to consider walking the children to school, particularly if you live locally.
I would really appreciate your support with this matter.
A Couple of Reminders…
Please can I remind parents that social distancing and mask wearing is still advised when on the school grounds. Thank you to the majority of parents who are still adhering to the Covid rules. Although infection rates are low at the moment, it is important that we continue to keep each other safe, therefore please take responsibility and keep your distance, and wear a mask (if you are available to).
If your child attends Breakfast Club or has a hot dinner then please pay promptly on Parent Pay. There are a number of parents who are building up a sizeable debt. I would really appreciate it, if payment could be made promptly. Thank you.
Coming up in the next few weeks…
At the beginning of May, there are a couple of dates you need to be aware of:
Monday 3rd May is the Spring Bank Holiday therefore school is closed to all pupils.
Thursday 6th May is Election Day and the Nursery building is being used as a Polling Station.
This means that there will be no Nursery, but the rest of the school (Reception to Year 6) will be open as normal.
Easing of Covid Rules
A few parents have been asked me when parents would be allowed back in to school to attend assemblies and school events. The easy answer to that question is: I don’t know. We have to wait for the DFE (Department of Education) to release guidelines outlining what schools can and can’t do. As it currently stands, the rules are the same as they were before Easter, so the children are still taught in bubbles, only essential visitors are allowed in school, and the staggered finish is still in place. We have been informed that the guidance is being reviewed in line with the national easing roadmap, and we should know any changes just before May 17th, and then just before June 21st. We have to prepare ourselves that “normal” might not return for quite a while, but I am optimistic that we will be allowed to invite parents to school events by the end of the year, even if it is social distanced on the field! I will, of course, keep up to date with any developments. Many thanks for adhering to the current rules, and for now we will carry on as we were!
Summer Poem by Susan Coolidge
Every day is a fresh beginning,
Listen my soul to the glad refrain.
And, spite of old sorrows
And older sinning,
Troubles forecasted
And possible pain,
Take heart with the day and begin again.

Thank you to all of you who voted for Winshill Village Primary and Nursery School in the Dunelm Facebook Competition. I am pleased to tell you that we won! The school has received sunflower and strawberry seeds to plant. The children will enjoy planting these and I will take photographs when we have some flowers to show you. Thanks again for all your votes.
Please follow the school on twitter #WinshillSchool or on Facebook to keep up to date.
Thanks for your continued support.
