Friday 17th September - Update

Summer Challenge

We had a phenomenal response to the Summer Challenge, with over 80% of the children in school completing at least 3 challenges. Half the children in school completed over 15 challenges and produced some fantastic scrapbooks. There were amazing photos, drawings and written work - thank you to all the parents who helped their child meet the summer challenge. We also had a fantastic response to the online reading challenge - we had lots of children who read for over 100 hours. Superb! As a treat, the children had time on a bouncy castle on Thursday, to say thank you and well done for all their hard work. Brilliant!

Covid Update

A clarification for you all, on when different tests should be used. A lateral flow test should only be used if your child is asymptomatic, but they may have been in close contact with a positive case or you are completing routine checks. However, if your child has any symptoms - temperature, continuous cough or loss of taste or smell - then a PCR test should be used. To summarise; no symptoms - lateral flow; symptoms - PCR! If you have any questions, please ask.

Please can I remind parents that they should not walk up the ramp in the morning. Please allow the children to walk up by themselves. Special arrangements can be made for children with special needs or new children in Reception - please check with staff. Please do not be offended if I ask you to step back down the ramp.

Can I also kindly request that masks are worn when collecting children at the end of the day - there are a lot of people on the playground at this point, and we want to keep everyone as safe as possible.

School is looking amazing…

Staff have been working hard with the children to update the displays around the school. The corridors are looking amazing and are reflecting all the excellent work that is going on. Here are some examples for you…

Job Vacancy: Administration Assistant

Congratulations to Mrs Mellor, who has gained promotion, and is off to pastures new at the beginning of October. She has worked incredibly hard at Winshill Village Primary and Nursery School and we will all miss her. We wish her lots of success in her new role, much deserved. Well done Mrs Mellor!

This means, however, that we are looking to appoint a new Administration Assistant, to work alongside Mrs Shakles in the office. You can find the advert, the job description and the application form here. The closing date is Friday 1st October. If you are interested, or know someone who is, then feel free to contact me to chat about the role. win-headteacher@win.jtmat.co.uk

Nursery Places

We have places in Nursery for January; both in Little Winners and in Little Stars. If you would like a place for a January start (or know someone else who would be) please pop to the office and pick up an admissions pack. We can arrange tours after the school day, if required.

Clubs

I have had a number of queries from parents asking why all clubs can’t be open to all year groups. For some clubs it would be inappropriate for Nursery children to be working with Year 6 - imagine what football club would look like! Over the course of the year, there will be an equal number of clubs for each age group in the school. It is important to note that the staff run these clubs voluntarily - at no extra cost to you. I am sure you will join with me in thanking the staff for volunteering. Please note that clubs will only continue if Covid infections school remain low.

Many thanks for your continued support.
