Friday 16th July Update

Congratulations and Well Done

A huge congratulations and well done to Ruby in Year 2, who represented Winshill Village Primary and Nursery School, in the JTMAT Mastermind Reading Challenge. She had to answer 10 questions about her favourite book (George’s Marvellous Medicine) from the question master, Mr Donoghue (CEO of JTMAT). Ruby was up against all the other schools in the Trust (14 in total!) and she was up against children a lot older than her including Year 6 and Year 9’s! Ruby did brilliantly, coming 3rd overall, and was one of only three children who got 10 out of 10. What a fantastic achievement, we are incredibly proud of her. She was an excellent ambassador for the school. Well done Ruby! #jtmatlovesreading

Year 6 Leavers Assembly

I am delighted to say that we will be going ahead with the Year 6 Leavers Assembly this year. The assembly will take place on Tuesday 20th July at 10am.

The assembly will follow current Covid restrictions.

One parent for each Year 6 child is welcome to attend.

We will adhere to social distance rules during the performance and we will ask parents to remain in their seats throughout.

On arrival you temperature will be checked and you will be required to complete a track and trace form.

If you haven’t already done so, please let the school office know, who will be attending.

Last Day of Term

School finishes for the year on Wednesday 21st July at 1pm.

The new school year for the children starts on Monday 6th September.

Staff are back from Wednesday 1st September and will be completing Paediatric First Aid Training during the INSET days. The office will be open from Wednesday 1st September, if you need to contact us before the start of term

The Summer Challenge

Each child (except current Year 6) will be taking part in ‘The Summer Challenge’.

The children will be bringing home 20 activities to try and complete over the summer. The children will be given an exercise book, so they are able to document their activities. The activities are designed to keep the children learning and thinking of the break, but designed in a fun and creative way.

They are designed so that the children can either complete them individually, or working together with the family.

Alongside the activities, will also be access to an online reading library, which will enable the children to access 1000’s of books. The system will enable staff to monitor the children’s reading over the summer. If you don’t do anything else, it is important that you spend some of the time reading during the summer break. Look out for the activity pack, which should be coming home today.

All children should return the pack to school, on their return on Monday 6th September. Any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me on: win-headteacher@win.jtmat.co.uk

New Reception Starters in September

For our new Reception starters in September, the children will be completing two half days, before starting full time on Wednesday 8th September. The Reception children should be doing either 9-11 or 1:15 - 3:15 on Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th September. Parents should have received a letter stating which session they will complete and a text will be sent out nearer the time. If you are unsure of the Reception procedures for September, please get in touch.

Remember, no change to the Covid Restrictions in School…

As you would have heard Mr Williamson, the Secretary of State for Education, has announced the changes for schools when Step 4 comes into place on 19th July. Unfortunately, this is too late to change the school’s procedures and routines for the rest of the term and therefore we will continue as we are, with the school’s current Covid restrictions, until we break up on 21st July. As a school we have been very successful avoiding bubble closures, let’s work together to maintain this until the end of the school year. Thank you for your cooperation.

Lateral Flow Tests Available

We have some spare lateral flow tests available. If you would like a box (each box contains 7 tests) please collect from outside the main door by the office. Lateral flow tests are designed to pick up any asymptomatic Covid cases, if your child has symptoms, they should still go for a PCR test. The box will be outside the front door throughout today, and it will work on a first come, first served basis.

School staff will continue to test themselves twice a week for the rest of term and when we return in September.

Class Parties

The children will be having their class parties on Monday afternoon. You do not need to supply food or drink, as this will be provided by the school. However, the children are welcome to wear their own clothes to school on Monday, rather than uniform. No donation is required.

Children should wear their uniform on Tuesday and Wednesday as normal. Many thanks.

A message from the JTMAT Attendance Officer

Parents are respectfully reminded that holidays will NOT be authorised during term time and may be subject to the issuing of a fixed penalty notice (fine).

Parents are also advised not to book holidays abroad that would mean pupils isolating during term time on their return to the UK. In these instances such absences may also be unauthorised and subject to the issuing of a fixed penalty notice (fine). Michelle O’Dell
