Happy Summer Holidays
As this is my final blog for 2020-2021, I would like to take this opportunity to pass on my sincere thanks to you all for all of the support that you have given our school community this year– and what a year it has been for everyone!
I thank you for the trust that you have placed in us as a school, by continuing to send your child to school when you were able to and for following all of the safety measures that we have had to put in place to try and protect everyone and limit the spread of Covid 19 as far we were able to.
It has been a challenging time for everyone, but your children have brought all of the grown ups at Winshill Village Primary and Nursery School lots of joy and happiness. Their enthusiasm, resilience and cheery smiles have kept us all going. We are extremely proud and grateful to all of our pupils.
I couldn’t miss this opportunity to say a BIG and sincere thank you to all of the Winshill Village staff, for all of their hard work, commitment and dedication throughout the year. Like the children and many of you, they have had to learn new ways of working and I am extremely grateful to them all for how well they have risen to the enormous challenges that this year has thrown at us.
I believe that Winshill Village Primary and Nursery School and its staff have been exemplary throughout this difficult time. Thank you to all of you for your positive comments and support, they have meant a lot, in these challenging times.
The staff will be busy working during the summer break, preparing for September, but I hope that they all find time to have a rest and recharge their very empty batteries. To the whole of the Winshill VIllage community - thank you and have a lovely Summer.
New Reception Starters in September
For our new Reception starters in September, the children will be completing two half days, before starting full time on Wednesday 8th September. The Reception children should be doing either 9-11 or 1:15 - 3:15 on Monday 6th and Tuesday 7th September. Parents should have received a letter stating which session they will complete and a text will be sent out nearer the time. If you are unsure of the Reception procedures for September, please get in touch.
The Summer Challenge
Each child (except current Year 6) will be taking part in ‘The Summer Challenge’.
The children will be bringing home 20 activities to try and complete over the summer. The children will be given an exercise book, so they are able to document their activities. The activities are designed to keep the children learning and thinking of the break, but designed in a fun and creative way.
They are designed so that the children can either complete them individually, or working together with the family.
Alongside the activities, will also be access to an online reading library, which will enable the children to access 1000’s of books. The system will enable staff to monitor the children’s reading over the summer. If you don’t do anything else, it is important that you spend some of the time reading during the summer break. The children should already have brought the activity pack home, if they haven’t, please let the office know.
All children should return the pack to school, on their return on Monday 6th September. Any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me on: win-headteacher@win.jtmat.co.uk
Good luck and Goodbye
Today we say goodbye to our wonderful Year 6’s. They have been role models to all the children and have worked hard throughout the craziness of lockdowns and Covid restrictions. I have been impressed and amazed by the resilience and positive attitude, when faced with changes and challenges. Everyone, here at Winshill Village Primary and Nursery School, are very proud of the young men and women they have become. I wish them every success at their secondary schools. Good bye Year 6 and Good Luck!
We also say goodbye to Mrs Mitchell and Mrs Smith, who will be leaving us today. Thank you for all your hard work ladies, and I look forward to hearing about all your new adventures. Thank you!

And congratulations to Mr Duffill, who is getting married over the summer break!
I will be updating my blog on Friday 3rd September to give you all the up to date arrangements for school including the latest Covid advice. There is no point in outlining our plans at the moment, as I am sure things will change before September. We will send you a text when the blog is live. In the meantime, you can find a summary of the changes to Track and Trace for schools here. If you need to get hold of someone from school over the holiday, please send me an email at win-headteacher@win.jtmat.co.uk. I will check my emails regularly and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.
