Year 2 - Summer activities
Hello year 2!!
We have reached the end of this academic year and what a year it has been! You have all made me so incredibly proud with what you achieved before lockdown and also during! I wish we could have spent more time together this year but I know I will see you around school once you are in Year 3. Always remember to aim high and aspire to be great, I know you all can be!
I have found some different activities that you might want to have a go at during the summer holidays to help keep you busy -
The national trust have a list of activities that you should complete before you are 11 3/4 and I thought it would be great if you could see how many you could tick off over the summer. I bet some of you have done a lot of them already!
Use chalk to create a hopscotch or obstacle in your garden for you and your family to have a go at, get creative and in some challenging obstacles.
Create a piece of artwork outside using a range of different natural materials. See if you could find a range of different colours. Maybe you could make a rainbow with all of the colours you find.
Does anyone in your family have any odd or old socks? Have a go at creating your own sock puppets by using different materials to stick onto it. You could even just pretend with the old sock.
Have you got a spare cardboard box? What could you make with it? Maybe some form of transport, or a house/den. Maybe you could create your own puppet theatre and put on a show for the people who you live with.
Create your own scavenger hunt and have a go with your family. Tell them what they need to find and see who can find them the quickest, you could join in too. Maybe ask someone else to be the one to choose the items too.
Guess the animal - make lots of cards with different animal names on them. One person chooses a card and acts like that animal for everyone else to guess.
Homemade bubbles - make your own bubble solution with 6 cups of water and 1 cup of washing up liquid then find utensils from the kitchen with holes in e.g slotted spoon, sieve, etc. Experiment with the things you have found to see how easy it is to make bubbles.
Use different bottles and food types (rice, lentils, pasta, water etc) to create your own musical instruments. Maybe you could compose your own song.
Summer reading challenge - Burton library are running a summer reading challenge over the holidays. Mrs Claxton has put more information on the website. It would be great if you could all take part!
Try and also stay active, this will help to keep you healthy and happy.
Go for a daily walk with your family.
Go for a bike ride around the local area.
Try some yoga with Cosmic kids yoga.
Have a go at one of the many workouts on Joe Wicks’ youtube channel. I know the children at school have enjoyed the active8 sessions.
Maybe you want to have a go at some dancing?
I have also attached the Twinkl summer activity booklets as well as the classroom secrets home learning pack from this week for you to have a go at at home if you wanted to carry on with your learning.
I hope that you all have the most amazing summer and I look forward to seeing you all around school in September! Good luck for Year 3!
