Year 6 Home Learning - Week Beginning 25.05.2020

Year 6. Thank you for so many more messages this week, sent through the ‘Send a message’ area on the website.

Lucas and Ethan are the stars of the show this week, representing year 6 in the Home Learning Showcase area, I have included some of my favourite pictures of their work, an ingenious invention from Lucas and what looks to have been an amazingly tasty cake made by Ethan. Any of that left for me?

I have included your Home Learning Tasks for this week below. Please remember that these are just suggestions and there are no expectations for you to complete all of the activities.

English

I am still championing (synonym: advocating) the use of the Oak National Academy. the structure and content follows the national curriculum and this week, letter of complaint writing, gives you a possible outlet for you feelings with regard to the lockdown. By following the lessons daily you will be walked through the process of writing a year 6 standard letter of complaint. I will include some helpful links below to support you in doing this.

By following the English on the Oak National Academy website, you will complete both reading and spelling activities that link with your instruction writing genre. Please remember the year 5/6 spelling words as a base for what to be learning and applying in your writing.

Check out spelling frame for work relating to the year 5/6 spelling words, there are also pages linked to the 3/4 spelling words if you are currently brushing up on these. It would be very useful if you would spend time this week looking at the spelling rules 48-52 (year 5/6 words) and 21-24 (year 3/4 words) which link to homophones and near homophones.

Maths

Continuing with the White Rose this week the unit of work that is being covered is algebra (yay!). I hope that you are still able to access the video tutorials, if you are having any trouble at all in accessing the work then please let me know and I will help in any way I can!.

Hopefully you are accessing some of the problems on the nrich website, I have included some new ones that link to certain aspects of algebra for you to try, otherwise, the nrich website contains plenty of home learning to support you at home.

PSHE

Wellbeing will be a huge focus for us when we are back in school. We will be doing a lot of work about how to stay positive and the many ways we can influence and bring some sense of control to our lives. To this end, this weeks additional work is based around the concept of ‘Thinking Positive.’ I have included some food for thought about this, please do what you can, if you don’t like the look of the resources below, take the title ‘Think Positive’ and be expressive, you are a VERY artistic bunch, more examples of this on the website would be very much appreciated.

I have included the resources for lesson one below, including a lesson plan for you and your parents to see how it would be run as a lesson in school.
