Reception home learning week beginning 25-5-20 and 1-6-20
Hello Reception! I hope that you are all well and keeping busy.
As you know, most of you should be able to come back to school on 1st June. I know that some people aren’t coming back to school yet but don’t worry, we will keep updating the website and making sure that you know what’s going on. Mrs Moxon will be helping out by adding ideas onto our Reception blog for those of you learning from home.
We are all looking forward to seeing you; we have been planning some exciting activities for you to do. When you do come back to school, you will notice that some things look a little different. You will see markings on the floor around the school, our classroom has been split into two parts and, at times, you may see teachers wearing masks. None of this is anything to worry about though because actually, it’s the same playground, with the same friends in your class and the same smiling teachers ready to support you with your learning. And we can’t wait to see you again!
The home learning activities for the next 2 weeks are based around snails. The children who will be in school will do the same things.
Literacy ideas:
Listen to the snail and the whale story. Talk about what happened in the story and draw a picture of your favourite part.
Write a postcard from one of the places the snail visits in the story.
Pay Buried treasure on phonics play. Log in using march20 as the username and home as the password. Select phase 3 and the ai sound. Children have to read the word and decide if it is real or fake.
Play Grab a giggling grapheme on phonics play (Select phase 3 + ai, ee igh, oa)
Play yes/no yeti on phonics bloom. (Select phase 3) Children read a sentence and answer yes or no.
Play word pairs on phonics bloom (Select phase 4 ) Children read the word and match the correct picture to it)
Create rhyming words for the word snail; they can be real or fake words. Write them down on snail shaped paper.
Find out information about snails.
Write down three facts about snails. e.g Snails have a shell.
Create a story map for a snail adventure, think about what might happen to the snail, who might it meet? Then write the story together.
Maths ideas:
Look at the pictures of snails on leaves. Count how many snails are on each leaf. Write the number . Compare the groups of snails and say which has more less.
Copy or print out the snail picture puzzles (Either counting in 1s, 2s or 5s) Children put the puzzle back together by putting the numbers in the correct order.
Colour the snail by number. Colour the snail:addition to 10. Colour the snail: addition to 20.
Share 10 leaves between 2 snails (Real or printed or drawn!) How many does each snail have. Repeat with 8, 12, 4, 6, 14, 16, 18 or 20 leaves.
Order a set of numbered snails 1-20
Draw different sized snails then use cubes to measure them. Which one would fit in a tank 20 cubes tall and 20 cubes wide?
Create addition number sentences using dice. Roll the die and count out that many snails, roll again and count out that many snails. How many altogether? Write the number sentence.
Create subtraction number sentences. Count out 10 snails. Roll a die and take that many away. How many are left? Write the number sentence.
Collect real snails and have a snail race. Measure how far each can go in 1 minute.
Create patterns with different coloured snails. Create a grid then draw snails onto it in different colours . e.g red, blue, red, blue
Creative ideas:
Go on a hunt for snails, how many can you find? Collect a few in a container and look closely at them. Sometimes if they are sleeping a gentle spray of water wakes them up! They like to eat cucumber or tomatoes; it’s very interesting.
Create your own play dough snails with real shells or salt dough snails that can then be painted.
Create circle print snails.
Make your own large snail and decorate the shell with glitter, stickers, shapes etc.
Draw snails on the path with coloured chalks.
Make you own snail habitat.
Make a paper plate snail.
Create swirly patterns using stones, buttons or beads to position onto the spirals.
Paint pictures of snails, mixing colours together to create new colours; red and blue, red and yellow, yellow and blue.
Create a snail with a glittery spiral shell. Glue a spiral shape onto the shell and sprinkle glitter onto it.
5 steps to well being:
Connect: Make a card for a friend you haven’t seen from your class.
Be active: Play a game of water balloon target practise.
Take notice: Reflect on the positives: think of 3 things you are grateful for.
Keep learning: Find out how to make a sensory bottle and then make one for yourself choosing what you would like to put in it.
Give: Give some of your time to help somebody in your family. This can be with household chores such as laying the table for tea, helping to clean out the rabbit, sweeping leaves off the driveway or making your bed everyday for a week.
