Nursery Home Learning - Week Beginning 25.05.20 & 01.06.20

As you know, most of you should be able to come back to school on 8th June. I know that some people aren’t coming back to school yet but don’t worry, we will keep updating the website and making sure that you know what’s going on. We are all looking forward to seeing you; we have been planning some exciting activities for you to do. When you do come back to school, you will notice that some things look different. You will see markings on the floor around the school, you will have a whole desk to yourself and, at times, you may see teachers wearing masks. None of this is anything to worry about though because actually, it’s the same playground, with the same friends in your class and the same smiling teachers ready to support you with your learning. And we can’t wait!

We hope you had a great weekend with your family! Talk to your grown-up about something you enjoyed doing over the weekend. Perhaps you read one of your favourite books? Maybe you played a fun game with someone from your family? Or you might have been out on a lovely walk? It is the first day of the week today, can you tell your grown-up what it is? Do you know the month? What about the date? What is the weather like today?

Let’s begin by saying a huge thank you to Isabelle for sending us photos of the wonderful activities she has been doing at home. Isabelle made a fantastic stegosaurus dinosaur out of craft items found around the home, super idea. It looks like Isabelle and her sister also had a lot of fun making homemade play-sand, well done. Thank you to Rex, he made a picture of a sunflower and he wants to grow one that ‘is as big as our house!’ That would be amazing! Rex and his family also went on a long walk and Rex enjoyed listening to all the birds singing, ‘they were really loud’ Super effort Rex for listening carefully to the birds, this is a great activity to help improve your phonics skills. We absolutely love Thomas and William’s sunflowers. They are so beautiful, we like the way you have used different mediums, especially the seeds! Remember if you have a drawing or a photograph of something you have been doing, feel free to send it via the Home Learning Showcase. We love to see your creations.

Little Winners & Little Stars - Environments

Suggested tasks for Mathematics:

  • Count forwards and backwards from 12 to 0

  • Watch a Numberblocks clip each day at BBC or CBeebies

  • Sing a counting song – 10 fat sausages sizzling in the pan, 1 went pop the other went bang (show the number on your fingers as you take 2 away each time)

  • With your child, draw 10 sausages, cut them out, label them with numerals 1-10, and then act out the rhyme

  • Learn about weight - ‘heavy’ and ‘light’. In your home can you find 3 things lighter and 3 things heavier than an item your adult chooses?

Suggested tasks for Reading:

Suggested tasks for Writing:

  • Make a weather chart - see below – draw the picture symbols, and with your adult see if you can label them with the letter sounds they begin with e.g – s for sun

  • Practise holding your pencil correctly – one finger on the top and hold it near to the nib

  • Practise writing your name, write your surname too if you can already do your first name. You could write your brother’s or sister’s names, or a friend’s name too

  • If you have wax crayons use them to make a rubbing – e.g. of a coin, a leaf - this will help to strengthen your fine motor skills

Suggested tasks for Phonics:

  • Sing songs and rhymes, adding actions and changing the words. You can find Nursery Rhymes here

  • Clap the rhythm of a nursery rhyme

  • Make a rainmaker to create sounds - loud, soft– see below

  • As part of your daily exercise take a Listening Walk – what can you hear?

Suggested wider curriculum projects:

  • The project this week aims to provide opportunities for your child to learn more about the environment

    Weather

  • Make a simple weather chart and talk about the weather every day – as we do in Nursery

  • Collect any rain – cut down a bottle and leave outside. If it rains draw a line where it comes up to, put it back and see if it rains again. Repeat.

  • Make a rainmaker – use an empty clean plastic bottle or another container. Put a spoon or two of rice, lentils or anything else you find inside. Secure the top with sellotape. Decorate with glitter or paint. Have fun making rain sounds – sometimes quiet, sometimes loud

    Recycling

  • Can you sort out the recycling – by shape or material? What are the things made from – paper? plastic?

    Ice

  • With your adult make some ice in containers. When frozen take out of the freezer and watch what happens when they melt – put them in different places - in the sun, in your hands etc

  • Watch ‘Frozen – In Summer’. Talk about what might happen to Olaf when it gets warm
