Year One Home Learning - Weeks Beginning 25-5-2020 and 1-6-20

Hello Year One! I hope that you are all well and keeping busy.

As you know, most of you should be able to come back to school on 1st June. I know that some people aren’t coming back to school yet but don’t worry, we will keep updating the website and making sure that you know what’s going on.

We are all looking forward to seeing you; we have been planning some exciting activities for you to do. When you do come back to school, you will notice that some things look different. You will see markings on the floor around the school, you will have a whole desk to yourself and, at times, you may see teachers wearing masks. None of this is anything to worry about though because actually, it’s the same playground, with the same friends in your class and the same smiling teachers ready to support you with your learning. And we can’t wait!

English

For your writing this week, I want you to imagine that you are going camping. If you have been before, think about what you did. Look at the picture below and write about what it would be like. Use the questions underneath to help you.

  • What is the weather like?

  • Who will you go with?

  • What might you do when you go camping?

  • What can you hear, see, smell, touch and taste?

  • What would you eat?

If you enjoyed this activity, you can find more writing activities like this here.

For reading, I would like you to read the passages below and answer the questions.

To keep practising your phonics, you can complete the following activities:

As always, you can always use Year One English section of BBC Bitesize or the National Oak Academy for online lessons too.

There is also a pack of work for Year One called Sayeeda the Pirate Princess. These are lovely activities that I hope you will enjoy.

Maths

Please feel free to follow the BBC Bitesize Maths or the Oak National Academy. Alternatively, you can try the activities below.

Topic

Here are a selection of different activities aimed at getting you thinking, problem solving and continue learning.

  • Make a list of things that you would need to take camping. You could even pack a bag! What do you really need? Don’t pack too much! It must fit into one bag.

  • Think about a special talent that you have. It may be something you can do, how you make someone smile or something new that you have learnt. Make a poster to show a member of your family or complete this activity sheet.

  • Draw or paint a self-portrait. Look carefully in the mirror. What colour are your eyes? What shape is your face? How long is your hair? Can you make your picture look like you?

  • Make an outdoor circuit for you to exercise with. How many star jumps can you complete? Run or the spot for 1 minute or dribble a ball around your garden. Try a few days later. Can you do any more?

  • Write a note or phone a friend or relative. What would you say to them? Tell them what you have been up to. Make sure you get a grown up to help you.

Have a good week. Enjoy the sunshine, stay safe and I hope to see you all soon.
