Home Learning - Year 3 - Week Beginning 20.04.2020 - The Tudors

Hello to my amazing Year 3 class. I hope you have all had a lovely Easter and that the Easter Bunny was very kind to you. Spring is well and truly in the air now and I hope you have been taking advantage of the beautiful weather by spending time in your gardens.

It was great to speak to some of you on the phone over the last two weeks and lovely to read messages you have sent to me through the website. I am missing you all terribly so it is nice to hear what you are up to and how you are getting on. Ethan, The gloop looks like great fun but I hope you cleaned up the mess you made and I am missing you too. Rosie, it sounds like you have been having lots of fun and I love the fact that you have been being an amazing big sister and helping your brother and sister when they are making things - remember to send some photos to the showcase so we can see what you have been doing. Layton, how are your sunflowers doing? Will you be able to measure them when they start to grow so you can tell me how tall they become. In answer to your question I am OK thank you. I have been doing lots of baking which is really just an excuse to eat cake :) Ruby, Mr Hickey has informed me that you have left me a picture at school. Thank you, that is very kind of you and I am looking forward to picking it up when I am in school next week. Keep sending me your messages.

The photos you have been uploading to the Home Learning Showcase are fantastic and it is great to see you all working so hard. Scarlett, your dinosaur drawing is amazing and Harrison I am not surprised you chose to complete my maths challenge. I am incredibly proud of how hard you are both working. Ruby, you had a very busy Sunday! I am glad to see you helping to prepare a roast dinner, I expect it tasted delicious as do your doughnuts. Ethan, your gloop looks disgusting but I imagine it was great fun to play with. Chloe, the cakes you and Isabelle made looked yummy. I will need to get the recipe so I can make some at home for myself. Violet, it seems you are enjoying taking care of your new chickens and I am extremely impressed with your sewing skills, you will need to teach me. Sienna, the information leaflet you have made is excellent and contains some very interesting facts.

Topic:

Our new topic for this term is The Tudors. As part of your home learning this week I would like you to research the Tudor Kings and Queens choosing one to write a short fact file about. You can record this in anyway you choose.

English:

For English this week I would like you to write a set of instructions. Examples of these are a cake that you have baked, a lego model you have built or game you have played. The choice is yours. Remember when writing instructions it is important that they are clear and tell the reader precisely what they need to do step by step.

Here are the things you need to remember to include:

  • Heading

  • Ingredients/equipment list.

  • Bullet points or numbered steps.

  • Time adverbials e.g. First, next, meanwhile etc.

  • Imperative (bossy) verbs e.g. cut, put, hold etc.

  • Adverbs to describe the imperative verbs e.g. slowly, carefully etc.

  • Technical vocabulary - specific to your instructions.

  • Diagrams or pictures to model each step.

  • Present tense.

Remember when writing instructions I give you permission to be incredibly bossy! You are in charge and need to tell the reader what to do. You can add your instructions and finished pictures to the Home Learning Showcase for us all to see.

Spelling:

Here are 5 words from the Year 3/4 statutory word list. Can you find the meaning of each word and then include it in a sentence?

  • knowledge

  • medicine

  • ordinary

  • separate

  • promise

Maths:

We will be continuing with our work on fraction this week - following the White Rose Home Learning.

Summer Term - Week 1

Mini Maths Challenge: Can you find the answers to these calculations? Remember to explain your reasoning.

  1. Mini Maths Challenge

Well Being:

We have spoken a lot this year about the importance of keeping your mind healthy as well as your body. This week I would like you to complete a well being challenge.

Everyday this week I would you and your family members to think of one thing you are thankful for and write it down - do not let each other see them. At the end of the week share your thoughts with your family and discuss why you are thankful for these things. Are any of them the same?

BBC Bitesize Daily:

BBC Bitesize have added daily lessons for each year group with subjects ranging from English and Maths to Science and Music. The link to these can be found on the home page of the website.

Remember to take care of each other and stay safe Year 3. I will speak to you all soon.
