You are my Superheroes! (Year 1 - Week beginning 30-3-20)

As we finish our first week away from school, I’d like to say well done! You have all been trying activities at home and keeping busy. You are all Superheroes! And that is what I would like you to think about this week.

Suggested Activities:

  • Design a Superhero cape. What shape would it be? What colour? What design would you add on the back? Can you create your own Superhero logo?

  • Create a Superhero den for yourself or your favourite toy.

  • Think of your favourite animal. What makes that animal special? Why do you like it? What can you find out about that animal? Look in any books you may have, ask an adult or research online (with parental guidance)

  • Draw, paint or collage a Superhero or an animal. Think about what we have learnt about drawing people in our work on Quentin Blake. Use anything that you have in the house. I would love you to send me a picture!

  • Learn to tie shoe laces or do small buttons on shirts.

English

Can you write 5 sentences about what you have done this week? Remember to say your sentence, write it down, read it and check it. Don’t forget capital letters, finger spaces, full stops and that it makes sense. Try and do this sitting at a table and in your very best handwriting. Can you use “and” in one of your sentences and “because” in another?

In phonics this week, I would like you to practise the “ee” phoneme. There are different graphemes for the “ee” phoneme as follows:

  • ea as in sea, treat and meat

  • e-e (split digraph) as in even, complete and these

  • y as in happy, funny and mummy

  • ie as in field, shriek and shield

  • ey as in donkey, money and trolley

Can you find any words with these graphemes in? Make a list of them! Use the phonics websites that I have given you to practise these graphemes.

Maths

Last week, we were learning about weighing and measuring. Use the link below to watch videos and complete the activities that you are able to. They are split into daily activities so please don’t do them all at once. Little and often is best!

  • White Rose Maths-Week 1- Weight and Mass, Volume and Capacity

I hope that this gives you some ideas for this week. Complete what you are able to and don’t worry if you can’t do it. Keep talking to those around you and look after yourselves!

Stay safe and have fun!

Mrs Williams
