Friday 2nd July Update
DT Project
In school, there has been a buzz of activity as each of the classes have been completing DT projects. There has been sewing, junk model animals and bridges made of spaghetti and a lot of mess!! (Apologies to the cleaners!) However, the children have had a great time and have produced some excellent work. You will be able to see some examples of the children’s work on display in the playground, after school tonight. Please have a look, although please keep to social distancing rules and where possible, please avoid touching the exhibits.
Residential
Year 5 and 6 are currently having an amazing time on their residential. It was great to see them putting up their own tents, organising themselves during team games and tackling each challenge with a smile on their face. The instructors are brilliant and certainly know how to keep the children busy. Residentials are a great way to develop the children’s independence and I am glad we were able to go ahead with it. Also a great big thank you to Miss Gallagher, Mrs Claxton, Mr Worth and Mr Duffill who helped run the two days, thank you for going above and beyond. As they will be tired (and smelly?) you are free to collect the children from 2:10pm today - if you wish to collect siblings too, please let the office know, so that we can have the ready for you.
INSET Day
A reminder that on Monday (5th July) the school is closed to the children because the staff are having an INSET day.
School will open again as normal on Tuesday 6th July.
Sports Day
As I mentioned last week, Sports Day is happening on Thursday 8th July, please make sure that the children are wearing their PE KIt on that day.
We are inviting Year 6 parents to attend, but there are certain Covid regulations to adhere to, these can be found on the Sports Day page. https://www.winshillvillage.org.uk/news/information-about-sports-day-year-6-parents-only
We will be sending out a text to Year 6 parents soon to find out who will be attending. Many thanks for your support, it should be a great day for the children.
Reports and Parent Consultations
Next Friday (9th July) you will be receiving your child’s end of year report. This will give you a detailed account of how your child is doing in school, and how well they have achieved this year. I have been busy reading them this week, and you are in for a treat, there are some incredible reports!
In the envelopes, there is lots of other information regarding Uniform, school dates and free school meals, please read carefully. There is also a short questionnaire, we would value your opinions on the reports, so please complete and return to school by the end of the school year.
If you have any questions about the reports, you will be able to book a parent consultation phone call with the class teacher. A link to book your phone call will be sent out next week. These phone calls will take place on Thursday 15th July. Please only book an appointment if you have a question or require further information from the report.
The plan (dependant on Covid!) is to have a parent drop-in early in September, so that you have the opportunity to meet class teachers. More information about that in September.
Year 6 Leavers Assembly
I am delighted to say that we will be going ahead with the Year 6 Leavers Assembly this year. The assembly will take place on Tuesday 20th July at 10am.
The assembly will take place outside and will follow Covid restrictions. One parent for each Year 6 child is welcome to attend.
We will adhere to social distance rules during the performance and we will ask parents to remain in their seats throughout.
On arrival you temperature will be checked and you will be required to complete a track and trace form.
A text will be sent out nearer the time to confirm who will be attending. It will be a lovely end to the year for the children.

A Couple of Concerns
I would like to make you all aware of a couple of concerns that have come to my attention, so that we are able to work together as a community to improve the situation.
1) Trespassing: Last weekend a group of children from the local secondary school broke into the school grounds. Luckily there was no damage done. We have been able to identify the children and we have informed the police. For those of you who live locally, if you see anyone on the school grounds, that shouldn’t be there, please let us (or the police) know straight away. To make you all aware, there will be a number of builders and workmen in school over the summer holidays. Many thanks for your cooperation.
2) Altercations on the Park: Over the last couple of weekends there have been altercations between some of our children and children from another local primary school. This happened at the local park. Last weekend, resulted in one of our children suffering from a head injury and mild concussion. If your children play in the local park, please talk to them about how to keep safe and how to walk away from aggressive situations. We will be echoing this message in school. Thank you for support in this matter.
Patience is not the ability to wait, but the ability to keep a good attitude while waiting. Anonymous
