Parents' Meetings and Year 6 Transition
I know I say this every week, but here we are at the end of another busy and productive week at Winshill Village Primary and Nursery School. I don’t know about you, but the weeks seem to be flying by. We will soon be at half term.
INSET Days and Half Term
A gentle reminder that Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd October are INSET days. School will be closed to pupils on these days, so the children will break up for half term on Wednesday 21st October and will return to school on Monday 2nd November.
Parent Meetings
We obviously can’t hold our usual parents’ evening this term, due to Covid regulations. Instead, we are going to be holding phone call consultations with parents, to discuss how well the children have settled in and to give you an update on how they are getting on.
On Monday you will receive a text to sign up for a time slot (in the normal way) for the class teacher to phone you. These phone calls will happen throughout the week, so you will have a choice of day and time. The phone calls will be 10 minutes long to give you summary feedback, if you need longer or you want to discuss an issue in more detail, this can be booked in at a later date.
Look out for the text on Monday and please note down when you phone call appointments are. Phone call consultations will start on Monday 19th October. (Year 1 Parents will receive a phone call from Mrs Claxton)
Harvest
On Wednesday 21st October we will be collecting food for our Harvest Display. Please can all donated food be either tins or packets - no fresh produce please. As we can’t have parents in school, we will be setting up the Harvest display outside the school office - so please add your donations to the display. We will be contributing our display to St. Mark’s Church, which will go towards a bigger donation to the local food bank. Thank you in advance for your generosity. More information next week.
Year 6 Transition to Secondary School
Applications for secondary school need to be in by the 31st October. All the local secondary schools are holding virtual tours and meetings. See below for links to the secondary school admission pages..

Collecting Children
It has been brought to my attention that some of our younger children are walking home by themselves or with siblings in school. Children in Year 4 or below are not permitted to walk home by themselves, unless we have written permission and this will only be agreed on a temporary basis. Children in Years 5 and 6 can walk home by themselves IF you have informed the office or class teacher. Children in Years 5 and 6 can not be expected to be responsible for younger siblings on the way home. I hope you understand that safety is paramount. If you would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to get in contact via the website or email win-headteacher@win.jtmat.co.uk .
Coats
The weather has definitely turned colder, but we still have children arriving at school without a coat, and in some cases without jumpers. Please make sure your child is wearing a coat and a jumper to school in the colder weather.
