Masks and Poetry

It has been another incredible week at Winshill Village Primary and Nursery School.

First a GREAT BIG THANK YOU to the vast majority of you, who are wearing masks on the school grounds. The response has been phenomenal and is very much appreciated. This is another step to ensure the safety of the children, the staff and indeed the Winshill Community as a whole. Brilliant. Thank you. I am also very happy about the dismissal procedures, which seem to a lot smoother and efficient now. I hope you feel the same way too - if you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me.

On Thursday, it was National Poetry Day and Winshill Village decided to celebrate in style. The school has been full of children performing poetry and enjoying recording podcasts. Have a listen out for them. I’ve included a recording from our wonderful Year 6 class for you to listen to below:

The children have investigated rhyme and rhythm, and have found personification, metaphors and similes. They have enjoyed the opportunity to use their voices, adding expression, tone and intonation. Their smiling faces remind us of all of the importance of education, and why despite these challenging times, we need to keep on learning!

A couple of quick messages from me:

1) Apologies, we are going to have to postpone the Zoom Story Time sessions next week, due to some technical difficulties. We hope to start these up after half term.

2) For parents of Year 6 children, Abbot Beyne are holding a virtual open evening, information can be found by following the link http://abbotbeyne.staffs.sch.uk/open-evening-2020/

Stars of the Week

KS2: Cian, Janey, Ava and Ryley

Congratulations to Year 6 on a great class assembly.

And as it was poetry day this week, a poem to finish this week’s blog is below!
