Year 6 English Home Learning - 01/02/21 - 05/02/21

Hello to my wonderful Year 6 class! I hope you are all okay and staying safe. I would just like to begin by saying that I am so incredibly proud of how hard you are all working. It always makes me smile when I receive images of your work and I am so impressed with how much work you are all completing at home.

It was lovely to see some of you on our Zoom call and I was really impressed with how well you all did in our quiz. It is clear that you are all working hard. Keep it up.

Lilly, thank you for sending me some photos of your fantastic Maths and English work this week, I can see you are working really hard and I am really proud of you, well done. I have been uploading the photos I have been receiving to our Year 6 Learning Gallery. It is lovely to see all your brilliant work on display, so if you have sent me some photos of your learning make sure you head over to the gallery to have a look.

If you have any questions about any of the activities or want to share what you have done with me, my email address can be found on the Year 6 Class Page. Remember, you should be submitting examples of your work to me using my email address at least once a week. Feedback will then be given either by email, phone or on our Zoom calls.

Spelling: Homophones

Starter: Can you identify synonyms for the following conjunctions?

Remember a synonym is a different word which has the same meaning. You can use a thesaurus or thesaurus.com to identify synonyms.

For today’s spelling activity I would like you to put each of the homophones listed below into sentences. These can be silly sentences or rainbow sentences.

Threw and through          peace and piece           allowed and aloud          waste and waist

Example: source and sauce

My favourite kind of sauce is barbecue.

You need to locate a source, which will support your argument.

Spelling: statutory spellings (ous endings)

Starter: Can you identify which vocabulary is spelt correctly and which is spelt incorrectly?

As an extra challenge, can you correct the vocabulary which is spelt incorrectly?

For today’s spelling lesson we are going to be looking at the statutory spellings which end in ous. These are: disastrous, marvellous and mischievous. I would like you to draw an image to represent each of those spellings. For example for marvellous you might draw you playing out in the snow, for disastrous you could draw a natural disaster.

You are writing about the discovery of the planet Pandora. There are lots of resources below to support you with your writing. I have done an example big write for you to magpie ideas from.
