Year 2 Topic and Story time Home Learning 25.01.2021 - 29.01.2021

Hello to my wonderful Year 2 class,

It has been great to speak to so many of you this week on the phone. I have loved hearing about all of the fantastic work you have been doing and it was great that you were all so excited about your learning. It has has also been brilliant to get so many emails with your lovely work on them! I can see that you are all working so hard and that makes me incredibly proud. Keep up the hard work and I look forward to seeing you all on our zoom call on Tuesday 26th January at 11.15am (details about what is needed for this can be found on Tuesday’s maths lesson). Keep smiling and being amazing!

Below is your topic learning for this week. We are continuing to read Gangsta Granny by David Walliams so you can find the next 5 chapters under story time for each day. Have a go at each lesson and remember to send photos of your work to me using my email address on the class page. I will be expecting at least one email from you per week so that I can see your amazing work.

Please remember that any worksheets do not need to be printed, they are there to support and guide you and you can have a go at these activities on a piece of paper at home.

History

Today in history we are going to be asking questions about sources. We are going to explore these sources (pictures) and think about what we want to know about them.
Look at the pictures below and think about how they could be connected and also what they might tell us. Think about what you want to know from looking at the pictures and write a question that you would like to know the answer to. I would like you to make sure you use open questions, this means the answer is not just yes or no. Use the question words below to help you. Remember questions need to be punctuated with a question mark (?).

Question words
Who
What
Where
When
Why
How

It would be really great if you could send me a picture of your work using my email address on the class page. I really look forward to seeing your lovely work.

Today we will be looking at the Jewish Festival of Sukkot. Watch the video below for today’s lesson.

The PowerPoint from the video can be found by clicking the link.

Wednesday

PE

Today I would like you to complete one of Joe Wicks’ workouts. You could choose to do this session live at 9 o’clock or you could complete this later in the day like we are in school. You could also choose to complete one of his other workouts.

Here is the link to the body coach YouTube channel.

Music

Today I would like you to think about what sounds you may be able to hear if you were around at the time of the Great Fire of London - could you try and recreate these using your mouth, body or objects around your house.
Some of these noises could be:

  • crackling of the fire

  • crashing of buildings falling

  • people screaming/crying/shouting

  • animals

  • splashing water

  • wood creaking

  • busy crowds

I would like you to practice making these sounds - experiment with a range of different objects to figure out how best to make these sounds.

Now you need to be a composer and create your own piece of music that is made up of the sounds you have been making. You may want to repeat some sounds and make a sequence. Perform your song to somebody who is at home.

Finally, draw a picture to represent your piece of music and the sounds you have been creating.

Remember to share a picture of your work with me using my email on the class page. I am really excited to see what you produce.

Science

Today, we are going to be learning about habitats. You will need a pencil, some paper and a coloured crayon or pencil.

In your lesson, you will recap on the life processes. We used Mrs Gren to help us remember these in our science lessons. In today’s video, the teacher uses Mrs Nerg to recall the life processes. This is another way to help us remember them, the letters are just used in a different order.

Click here to go to the National Oak Academy to begin your lesson.

I look forward to seeing your super science work.

Here are some videos about different habitats - click on the picture and follow the link.

I would like you to start by counting the money in these money boxes. How much is in each one?

Please watch the video clip that was sent to you for this lesson.

I would like you to use a range of recycling from home to make your own money box to help keep your own money safe.

Remember to share a picture of your work with me using my email on the class page. I am really excited to see what you produce.
