Year 1 Topic and Story time Home Learning 01.02.2021 - 05.02.2021

Hello Year 1

This week is Children's Mental Health Week. The theme this year is Express Yourself. Expressing yourself is about finding ways to share feelings, thoughts, or ideas, through creativity. This could be through art, music, writing and poetry, dance and drama, photography and film, and doing activities that make you feel good. In our blog this week, you will find some activities to support your mental health and well-being that allow you to express yourself. I hope you enjoy these activities - remember to send in any pictures so I can see what you have been doing and share them in our class gallery.

Monday

Art

This week we will be creating our background for our final piece of artwork. You will be using the blending techniques we looked at 2 weeks ago. You can choose whichever media (poster paint, watercolours, pastels, chalks, pencil crayons, wax crayons) you have available to you at home or that you will feel will create the most effective background. We will be blending warm colours together to create a background that looks like the flickering fire of the Great fire of London.

Our final art work will look a little bit like the pictures below. Remember today we are just creating the background. Fill the whole sheet of paper in blended warm colours. We will be creating the silhouettes next week.

Remember to send me a picture of your brilliant work using my email address on the class page. I can’t wait to see what you have been up to.

Computing - Safer Internet day

Today is safer internet day so our computing lesson will be based around keeping yourself safe on the internet.

Read the story about Detective Digiduck (or watch the video below of it being read).

Once you have read or listened to the story I would like you to think about what wise own tells digiduck to do when he was feeling unsure about something online. I have also attached a photo of Wise Owl’s top tips for searching online to help you with this.

I would like you to now write an email to wise owl about what you have learnt about staying safe online from the story. Make sure you include all of the information so that wise owl knows that you will be able to stay safe. I have attached a word bank below to help you with this.

Below is another video that has been produced for safer internet day, watch it to support your understanding of staying safe online.

It would be really great if you could send me a picture of your work using my email address on the class page. I really look forward to seeing your lovely work.

Attached below are 2 more stories about Digiduck and his adventures online if you are interested in reading them.

  1. Digiduck’s famous friend

  2. Digiduck’s big decision

In PE this week we will be working on using a range of dance movements. I would like you to have a go at some of these GoNoodle dance routines to keep you active this week. Alternatively you could create your own dance routine to your favourite song.

RE

Today we will be looking at how Jewish people celebrate Shabbat (The sabbath). Watch the video below of Miss Hughes explaining what Shabbat is.

If you would prefer to read about it yourself here is the information used in the video.

Here is also a link to a video about a Jewish family whilst they are celebrating Shabbat.

I would like you to now use the following recipe to have a go at baking your own challah bread.

Remember to share a picture of your work with me using my email on the class page. I am really excited to see what you produce.

For today’s lesson, you will need a pencil or pen, some paper to write on and a different coloured pen or pencil. You are going to design a bug hotel and then, if you want to, you can make your own bug hotel.

Mental Health and Wellbeing Activity

We are going to choose an activity to support our mental health and wellbeing. The theme for this year’s Children’s Mental Health Week is Express Yourself. Choose an activity from the list below to express your thoughts, feelings, ideas and anything you would like to share.

Activity Ideas

  • Create some art. You could draw, paint, build, stick, cut - it is your choice. Use your favourite colours, draw your favourite things - it is your art work.

  • Put on your favourite music and create a dance.

  • Write a poem about yourself or your favourite things and perform it to your family.

  • Do you have a musical instrument? Perhaps you could improvise with objects from around your home. Saucepans and a wooden spoon, pasta in a container to shake…create your own music and share with your family.

  • Put on your favourite clothes or wear your favourite colours. Draw a picture of your favourite outfit thinking about why you like it, what the colour means to you and how you feel when you wear it.

Remember to share a picture of your work with me using my email on the class page. I am really excited to see what you produce.
