Year 1 Maths Home Learning, week beginning 1st February 2021
Hi Year One,
I hope you are all okay. It was wonderful to see you on zoom last week! I cannot wait to have you all back in the classroom, learning maths together.
Thank you again for sending me your fabulous work, I am so pleased to see so many of you accessing the home-learning here on the blog. Remember to send me an email should you have any questions or require any further support. Mrs Cox and I will be ringing you this week for a catch-up and to see how you are getting on with the maths lessons.
This week, we will be continuing with addition and subtraction within 20. We will be using the National Oak Academy lessons as these link directly to the learning that we are doing in school. You will be using the ‘make ten’ strategy to add and subtract, as well as using different mathematical models for addition and subtraction. Remember to refer to the maths vocabulary document (on our class page) for definitions of our star words.
Over the week, I would like you to practise counting in 2s and 10s. Perhaps you could makes some groups of 2 and groups of 10 to help. For example, you could use pairs of socks to count in 2s, and group pasta shapes into 10 before counting. Let me know how you are getting on. You will be able to share your counting in 2s or 10s when I speak to you on the phone this week!
Keep sending in your super work using my email address. I look forward to providing feedback so that we can keep our learning moving on! Speak to you soon.
Monday
Today’s lesson continues to build on our learning in Friday’s lesson - using the ‘make ten’ strategy to add two one-digit numbers. You will need a pencil or pen and something to write on.

Wednesday
Wednesday’s lesson is a continuation of yesterday’s maths lesson. You will use the ‘make ten’ strategy to subtract a one-digit number from a teens number. Remember to ask a grown-up to take a picture of your learning to send to me.

Thursday
Let’s explore some mathematical models and strategies for addition. What strategies do you use to add?

Friday
Our final lesson in this block of learning is using mathematical models and strategies for subtraction. Please send a picture of your work to my email address so that I can provide you with some feedback.
