Year 4 Easter and Home Learning - Week beginning 06.04.20
Good morning to my wonderful Year 4 class!
I hope that you are all well, staying safe and being kind to each other (and your parents!!) It was so lovely to talk to some of you this week, hearing about all of the things you have been doing at home and how you are keeping up with your learning whilst we are not at school. It has been amazing to see how many of you are sharing your work on our learning showcase too! Keep sharing! We love to see your work!
I am so pleased to see that Kayla has been working hard on her tenths and hundredths this week and that Noah has made it to second place on TTRockstars - well done! Noah has also been keeping a ‘Lock Down Diary' to practice his brilliant writing and I can’t wait to learn more about Oscar’s science experiment exploring volcanoes - it looks fascinating!
It was also great to see that Gabriella has begun the Lego Challenge - your ‘Ride Of Death’ looks truly terrifying - and that Matilda and Piran have been drawing their own characters using the tutorials from Rob Biddulph - these are very impressive!
Stephen, your hoopla game is a super fun and active way to practice your mental maths, I love it, and Chloe your bird house and rainbows are just beautiful! If you spread some peanut butter on it and add some seeds and nuts the birds will love it even more! Maybe you could keep a log of all the birds that you have attracted to your garden?
Lily-Mae, Matthew, Jessica and Darcey, your pictures of rainbows and stay safe messages are so lovely and I am very proud to see that you are sending your positive messages and thoughts out into your community. Well done :)
Remember to keep uploading your fabulous work onto the Home Learning Showcase and it may be YOU featuring in the next class blog!
Piran, Matilda, Chloe, Jacob and Cain I also really enjoyed reading your messages this week, keep sending them in as it is lovely to hear from you.
Here is your home learning for the next two weeks. I have also included some Easter activities too.
English:
As you know our topic this term has been Ancient Egypt and we have learnt all about the Ancient Egyptians and how they lived. Now I would like you to do some research about the country Egypt and what it is like there. You can use the following websites to help you with your research (make sure you keep some notes) and you can find lots of interesting information about Egypt using the power point presentation below.
Your writing task for the next two weeks is to persuade me to visit Egypt for my next holiday!
Why should I go to Egypt and not somewhere else? What makes Egypt special? What could I do on my holiday to Egypt? Are there any special places that I could visit? Is there any Egyptian food that I should try? Is there a hotel with a swimming pool or a beach I can visit? Or perhaps some museums or even a boat ride? Watch the videos to get some extra ideas about why Egypt is a good place to visit.
These examples of persuasive writing might help you to structure your own piece of writing (Paris Holiday, Florida Holiday, Holiday Brochure). Look at the persuasive words and phrases that they use and the beautiful pictures of an Egyptian holiday that they build in the readers head. Remember, you can ‘Magpie’ words and phrases that you think are successful and use them in your work too!
You can record your persuasive writing in anyway you like e.g. a power point presentation, a written article for a travel brochure or even an information leaflet. You should plan your writing first to make sure you know what you want to say before you do your final piece of persuasive writing.
Maths:
This weeks maths activity is taken from the White Rose home learning packs for Year 4. Our current focus is Fractions and Decimals. Use the videos to help you complete the daily learning activities but don’t forget to warm up your brain first by completing the Flashback challenge at the start of each video! To complete the lesson activity you can either download and print the challenge sheet or you can simply use a piece of paper to write down the answers before using the ‘Get the answers’ link to check your work.
You can also use MyMiniMaths to practice your arithmetic. This week try number 10: Counting in tenths and hundredths. Can you complete the challenge for each day of the week?
Easter Holiday Activities:
Please remember these are just suggestions and you should not feel under any obligation to complete them.
Can you design an Easter Egg? It can be as bright and as colourful as you like using whatever materials you have in the house. Here is a link to a website with some ideas to get you started. Happy creating and I look forward to seeing some of them in the home learning showcase - Paper egg designs
Make a tally chart of the different plants and animals that you see when out on your daily walk or in your garden. Can you classify them into vertebrates and invertebrates? Can you present your data as a bar chart or a pictograph?
Plant some seeds. Maybe you could keep a diary to show how they change each week by drawing a picture or taking a photo. You could even use a ruler to measure the height once it begins to grow.
Bake an Easter cake and decorate it. (I know it is difficult to buy flour at the moment - so why not try corn flake or rice crispy cakes instead?)
Design your own Easter themed board game and play it with your family.

Remember Monday is officially the beginning of the Easter holidays so please take the time to do things as a family and enjoy spending time together.
Look after each other, stay safe and I hope you all have an egg-ceptional Easter!
