Year 5 Home Learning - Week beginning 30-03-20
Hello Year 5! I hope you have all had a fantastic week and enjoyed the sunshine! I’m extremely proud of all the hard work you are doing, keep it up. Below are your home learning tasks for this week. Remember to just try your best and do what you can.
Reading challenge!
Listen to the following extract from David Walliams fabulous book ‘Mr Stink’.
Once you have listened to the extract from the text, can you answer the following questions?
1. What did Chloe and Annabelle’s parents spend most of their lives doing?
2. What was listed on Annabelle’s schedule for 7 am on a Monday?
3. What does Annabelle do every weekday between 9am and 4pm?
4. Do you think Annabelle enjoys her busy schedule? Can you explain why?
5. Why do you think Chloe feels ignored?
Extra Challenge: Can you draw an image (or images) to represent what Annabelle’s schedule looks like on a Thursday?

Odd one out
Have a look at the following image
Your challenge is to tell me which is the odd one out and why, remember to use because when explaining why! If you get a little bit stuck think, about the animals appearances (what they look like), what they do and where they might be found.

English Challenges!
Challenge 1: Countdown
How many words can you make using the following letters? Remember you can only use each letter once.
Challenge 2: Standard English
Some children are speaking in their local dialects. Your task is to change what they are saying, so that their words are written in Standard English.
Example:
Local dialect – We was hungry.
Standard English – We were hungry.

Challenge 3: Animal description
Edinburgh Zoo have set up live cameras in some of their animal enclosures. Your task this week is to write a description on one of the animals, which you can view live on their website. When writing your description, think about the following:
What does the animal look like? You can use some amazing adjectives here!
What does the animal eat?
How does the animal move?
What is the animal’s personality like? For example are they lively or lazy, are they outgoing or more reserved?
Once you have written your fantastic description, can you draw an image of the animal you have written about?
At the top of the website are the links to the different animal enclosures, there are Pandas, Penguins, Koalas and Tigers.
Health and Wellbeing challenge
It is extremely important that during this time you are keeping both your minds and your bodies healthy.
Your health and wellbeing challenge this week is to do some deep breathing exercises. The link to the deep breathing exercises video is on the main page when you click the Year 5 class page button. The video is called ‘Rainbow Breath – Flow’.
Please remember that you do not have to complete the deep breathing activity, it is your choice whether you would like to complete this challenge.
