Phonics in Reception
The Reception class have been working very hard to learn their phonics sounds. They are also beginning to recognise the letters that go with each sound and they are starting to blend the letter sounds together to read words. e.g c-a-t cat.
Each child is being sent home with the set of letter sounds we have learnt so far. We have also included the first set of ‘tricky’ words; these are words that the children need to learn to recognise by sight as they cannot be sounded out. Please practise these at home. The following link is a YouTube clip giving the correct pronunciation of the sounds:
We teach the children to say sssssss rather than suh and www rather than wuh. This helps the children to blend sounds together accurately. If you have any questions or concerns, please see a member of the Reception team. Many thanks.
