You are not stuck at home.

“You are not stuck at home.  You are safe at home.”

As we come to the end of week 3, I have found the confinement of staying in more and more difficult.  Maybe it’s been the sunshine or the fact that we are technically on our Easter holidays, but the lure of the outside has been tempting.  Of course, I have stayed in, or I have been in school, but I don’t think it should be underestimated how difficult lockdown is, or will continue to be for all of us.  However, it is extremely important that we stick to the guidance and stay at home.

On a “normal” day we probably only see our family members for a few hours, but now we are together 24/7 and this could lead to arguments and falling outs.  We may never forget the coronavirus lockdown, but we need to make sure that we are going to be still talking to each other at the end of it. Apart from worries about the virus, there are likely to be rising tensions in families having to live on top of one another at home.  Even when we are altogether, we all need our own personal space and time, and this is difficult to achieve at the moment.

As you know by now, I love a good quote and my favourite quote of the week is “You are not stuck at home.  You are safe at home.”    This rings true - to stay at home and to be well, certainly outweighs any sense of missing the outside - however difficult it is.  We are lucky to have a homes and families to keep us safe and well.  Maybe at this unprecedented time, we should all try and appreciate our homes and families just that little bit more.

As I think about our current situation and going forward I hope that the next time I am sitting in a crowded restaurant I take the time to look around at the smiling faces, loud voices and be thankful for the gift of community.

I hope that when I am at the shops, that I take a moment to be thankful for the necessities of life and
for the amazing people who work so hard to keep us supplied.

I hope that I never again take for granted the ability to hop in the car and visit a friend, go to the shops, go to a movie etc.

Yes, it is tough at the moment and it can be challenging in many ways, but it is a necessity, It is short term pains for long term gains.  So, try and keep positive, and remember “You are not stuck at home.  You are safe at home.”

Take care of yourselves
