Keep on Going
Today, Winshill VIllage Primary and Nursery School joined in the Children in Need fun. The children (and the staff!) all looked amazing in their rainbow colours and they completed lots of fun activities. Some of the activities were suggestions to help with their mental health during the pandemic and lock down. You can find out more about the “Five to Thrive” activities, by going to the BBC website. https://www.bbcchildreninneed.co.uk/schools/primary-school/five-to-thrive-hub/
Thank you for your generous donations, up to this point the school has raised £150. A fabulous effort, thank you everybody. You can see some photos of the activities at the end of this blog.
On Wednesday, we held a two minutes silence for Armistice Day. It was a very moving experience for me. To see all the children together outside (albeit social distanced and in bubbles) was lovely and brought a lump to my throat. We haven’t been together as a whole school since March. The children were smiling to each other across the playground, thrilled at seeing other bubbles and other members of staff. During the two minutes, you could hear a pin drop. The children were completely silent and respectful. I was incredibly proud of them. Beautiful.
Your children are amazing, caring individuals. Over this week I have seen great empathy and support from the children to their peers. I have seen children be kind to each other, when someone is feeling lonely. I have seen children support their friends when they are feeling sad. I have had great discussions with the children about their thoughts and feelings about Lock down 2. I have seen children listen intently, whilst their friend tells them their worries. I have seen children smiling and laughing and sharing their experiences. They are more astute and sensitive than perhaps we give them credit for!
As you know, since school opened fully again in September, we have had a focus on mental health and well-being. We are working hard to ensure that your children feel safe and secure in these strange and unusual times. We continue to make school as “normal” as possible for the children, full of learning and laughter. However, if the children need some time or additional support, there is always someone they can go to.
I have spoken to a number of you this week and the common thread of all the conversations, is how tricky life is at the moment for all of us. Remember, school is here to support you, whenever we can, please keep talking to us, if times are difficult.
For those of you, who have read my blog regularly since March, you will know that I like a good quote. I will leave you today, with some motivational quotes, to help us all to ‘keep on going’.
Take care of yourselves and stay safe

Courage is not having the strength to go on; it is going on when you don’t have the strength.- Theodore Roosevelt
I always tell my kids if you lay down, people will step over you. But if you keep scrambling, if you keep going, someone will always, always give you a hand. Always. But you gotta keep dancing, you gotta keep your feet moving. – Morgan Freeman
You just do it. You force yourself to get up. You force yourself to put one foot before the other, and God damn it, you refuse to let it get to you. You fight. You cry. You curse. Then you go about the business of living. That’s how I’ve done it. There’s no other way. – Elizabeth Taylor
If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward. – Martin Luther King Jr
Most of the important things in the world have been accomplished by people who have kept on trying when there seemed to be no hope at all. – Dale Carnegie
Our greatest weakness lies in giving up. The most certain way to succeed is always to try just one more time. – Thomas A. Edison
