Year 3 Maths Home Learning 01.02.2021 - 05.02.2021

Hello to my amazing Year 3 class. I hope you are all ready for another week of maths home learning. This week, we will be beginning a new topic - measure and, as in previous weeks, our Friday lesson will be arithmetic based. We will also be revisiting the 4 times table and looking at the links between this and the 8 times table. Remember to keep using TTRockstars at least 3 times a week. This only needs to be for 10-15 minutes. Keep up the hard work Year 3!

Here is our Maths Key Vocabulary Glossary for Year 3. This can also be found on our Class Page under the Maths Heading. The glossary will outline the key vocabulary we use in our year group as well as providing a definition and example for each.

Here is a link to today’s problem - pouring problem. Watch the short video and explain what you think is going to happen to the water. Once you have discussed it, watch the second video to see what happens. Were you correct? Why did this happen? Remember to explain you reasons.

Friday 5th February:

Reasoning 5.PNG

Warm-Up - Can you use the inverse to check the answer to the calculations? Remember the inverse is using the opposite operation e.g. 12+12=24 24-12=12

234+125=359 754-241= 512 362+123=474 983-342=641

Solving addition and subtraction word problems.

Once you have completed the Oak National Academy lesson you can move onto the reasoning problem. Remember to answer the question and explain your reasons using words such as because.

Could you use all of the fives? Why?

Timestables: This week we will be revisiting the 4 timestable and learning about how this can help us with our 8 timestable.

Warm-up: TTRockstars (10 minutes)

Last week we looked at the 4 timestable and how we could work it out by multiplying the number by two and then doubling it. Today we will be using that to help us work out our 8 timestable. Here are links to the BBC Supermovers 4 and 8 timestable videos.

4 Timestables 8 Timestables

I have included a video to talk you through the steps.

Can you now find the answers to these calculations? Remember to use your knowledge of the 2 and 4 timestables to help.

3x4= 9x4= 11x4= 7x4= 6x4= 4x4= 12x4=

3x8= 9x8= 11x8= 7x8= 6x8= 4x8= 12x8=

Now can you try these. Remember to partition the 2 digit number into tens and ones.

13x4= 16x4= 19x4=

13x8= 16x8= 19x8=
