Wellbeing Day - 15th November 2021

On Monday 15th November 2021, we dedicated a day to wellbeing across our school. Children from Nursery all the way up to Year 6 have been looking at ways in which we can handle our emotions, discuss our feelings and help to understand our feelings. We have also been looking at some mindfulness activities, breathing techniques, support networks for when we are feeling particular emotions and some classes have even been doing some yoga and meditation!

It is important that the children’s wellbeing is a priority and that is something we pride ourselves on here at Winshill Village Primary School. We are extremely proud of the work produced by the children on our wellbeing day and are glad that we have the opportunity to share it with you! Below you will find some photos for each year group and a short explanation of the activities that took place on our wellbeing day.

Nursery

In Nursery, We begin out day with a welcome warm up physical exercise. We listened to classical music as we explored the paint to create patterns. We listened to the birds and the ‘quietness’ of the forest. We also looked at the book ‘The Gruffalo’ and thought about how the mouse felt.

Reception

As part of our well being day, Reception took part in some mindfulness colouring. We listened to calming music and quietly coloured our pictures. This gave our minds time to rest and focus on only the colouring. We also enjoyed a bubbles mindfulness moment. All we had to do was focus on one particular bubble at a time. We took a moment to relax and put all our worries and thoughts aside. We loved taking part in some rainbow relaxation. We used our hands as the paintbrush to paint a rainbow as we raised our arms creating the shape of the rainbow. As we brought our arms up we breathed in and as we lowered our arms we breathed out. We will definitely do this again.

Year 1

In Year 1 we have been thinking about differences between ourselves and others. We thought about what type of things make us different e.g. hair and eye colour, and what make us special e.g. something I can do that others can’t. We then thought what kind words we could use to show kindness to others. We drew around our hands and wrote a ‘kind word’ inside to make a kind hand.

We also spent time thinking about improving our well-being. We completed a Cosmic Yoga lesson all about Anti-Bullying Week.

Year 2

During our wellbeing day in Year 2, we have been boosting our self-esteem by thinking about what is amazing about ourselves. We had a discussion about what is amazing about ourselves, as well as others within the classroom. We created a picture of ourselves holding balloons that showed everything about us that is amazing. We took some time to reflect on our emotions and listened to music, expressing our emotions through our art work, creating patterns to show this. We ended the day by completing the cosmic kids anti-bullying yoga, thinking about how keeping physically fit can help to keep our mind healthy.

Year 3

During our wellbeing day in Year 3, we have been busy looking at our own inner cheerleader. We have been sharing how to overcome the negative thoughts we have and change them into positive thoughts. It has been really lovely to hear what our friends think of us and how special we are to others. We have also discussed how we can work hard and persevere to overcome challenges. We know looking after our own wellbeing is extremely important!

Year 4

In Year 4 we discussed and designed our own inner cheerleaders, choosing a way to represent them that had special meaning to us personally. Then we used role play to act out and explore scenarios where we could change our words to be positive, powerful and inspiring. In the afternoon, we took some time to practice a range of mindfulness techniques, including yoga and creating our own mindfulness colouring pattern. Finally, we made certificates for each member of our class, telling them how proud we are of their achievements and presented the certificates in a mini class ceremony.

Year 5

During our wellbeing day, we tested the famous quote “Practice makes Perfect”. We discussed how repeated practice can have a positive effect on the outcome, as well as positive thoughts. In class, we used our imagination and designed our own “Inner Cheerleader”. This is the voice in our heads that drives us forwards and gives us extra motivation. We learnt about “Thought looping”. This is the idea that our thoughts directly impact our feelings, which then impact our actions and behaviours. We discussed and created loops originating with different thoughts. We all closed our eyes during our mindfulness minute and imagined holding a balloon in a calm setting. This helped our class to feel more relaxed ready for a busy afternoon.

Year 6

In Year 6 we have been completing lots of different activities to celebrate our wellbeing,. We have done some yoga and meditation, we have done some mindfulness colouring and made bookmarks. In addition to this we have looked at what motivates us in life and stopped to reflect on the most important things in life. We have also produced some amazing posters to showcase our learning and understanding of how important wellbeing is.
