It has been lovely to see so many of you celebrating VE day at home with your families. Oscar, Travis and Chloe, your decorations look lovely, I love the home made bunting - I might make some myself - and Chloe I love the hand print poppies too - what a super idea (I might have to steal)!
I am glad to see lots of you working hard on our Tudor topic as well. Noah, your advert for a new wife for Henry VIII is brilliant and Oscar you have made a very informative poster with lots of lovely facts about Henry VIII - well done! I really like your coat of arms too. Travis, I hope you enjoyed reading all about Catherine of Aragon - did you manage to answer all of the questions using your retrieval skills? Piran your Horrid Henry VIII rap is super fun and catchy and there are some very clever rhymes in there. Evelyn your portrait of mummy is fabulous, I can really tell that you have taken your time and watched the videos to help you - very impressive :)
As always, I love looking at your photos and It makes me really happy knowing that you are having so much fun with your home learning! Kayla, thank you for uploading an updated picture of your magical fairy garden, I was dying to see how it turned out - WOW how it has grown! I think it is definitely time for a trim :) Gabriella, oh my goodness your unicorn dessert looks incredible - very professional! Jacob and Cain your homemade boats experiment looks fascinating - I would love to know the results! Did they float?
Keep up the fantastic work Year 4! I can’t wait to see who will feature in our gallery next week ….
I have included your Home Learning Tasks for this week below.
Reading:
This week I would like you to read the fact file all about Anne Boleyn.
Can you answer the questions using your retrieval skills? Don’t forget to use skimming and scanning to help you find the information you need even quicker without re-reading the whole text!
English:
For English this week I would like you to write a recipe, however this is not a recipe for some tasty food, it is a recipe for medicine! In Tudor times there were many diseases and lots of illnesses but unfortunately they did not have doctors, hospitals and medicines like we do today. Therefore, Tudor medicine mostly consisted of herbal remedies. For example, a mixture of sage, lavender and marjoram was recommended to treat a headache and chamomile was taken to help ease a stomach ache. These recipes seem pretty silly to us now, but in Tudor times people believed that these ‘remedies’ would truly treat their illnesses.
Below is an example of a Tudor remedy for gum sores:
This week I would like you to write your own remedy. It can be as ridiculous as you like as it does not have to work as a real medicine. You could also do some research into the different types of illnesses that the Tudors had so that your remedy would treat a real Tudor disease!
Just remember the following points:
Use a colon (:) to introduce the list of ingredients or equipment that you will need.
Use bullet points or numbers to order steps.
Use adverbials of time to express the order of each step (firstly, before, once it had dried)
Choose a variety of imperative verbs (pour, sift, crush, press, stir)
Be bossy using your command sentences.
Use adverbs to give more detail (gently, carefully, firmly, immediately)
Spelling:
Miss Whitley has been writing sentences too early in the morning again!! I’m sure they are full of spelling mistakes! Can you help me by spotting and correcting the mistakes in my sentences?
It was an amazing expeeryense!
Do you beleev in fairies?
Billy’s favourite type of froot is grapes.
The football went strayt into the goal!
The milk tasted strainj.
A sircle is a round 2D shape with one curved side.
Maths:
For maths this week we will be continuing our focus on money. We will be learning about pounds and pence, how to order and estimate money and also how to solve problems involving money using our 4 key operations: addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
You can use the PowerPoint Presentations below to learn how each problem is done. Then you can try it yourself using the question sheets and check your work using the answers.

Topic:
As you know our new topic this term is the Tudors. We have found out about King Henry VIII but did you know that his father was called Henry the VII and that he had 3 children that all reigned at some point too!
Below is a copy of the Tudor family tree. I would like you to create your own family tree. You could start with your grandparents or go back earlier if you can. I am looking forward to seeing some of them shared on the Home Learning Showcase.
Happy Home Learning!
