Year 6 Home Learning - Week Beginning 18.05.2020
Teagan! Ethan! Alex! Braedon! Some shout outs to those children who have been sending in work to the Home Learning Showcase pages of our website. I especially liked the Dark Mark, brilliant artwork there Teeeee!
I am very excited about the possibility of seeing you soon. It will be good to get back into some lessons, and catch up with you all in person! Thank you to all those children who have contacted me via the ‘Send a message to Mr Hickey’ area of the website, as I have said in previous weeks, all of these messages have been positive and make me smile when I have read them.
English
I am still promoting (synonym: advocating) the use of the Oak National Academy. the structure and content follows the national curriculum and this week, diary writing, gives you an opportunity to formalise or up-level any diary writing you have been doing during lock-down, or, take the opportunity to make a record of this historic event. This is a situation unknown to all of us and is undoubtedly a life-changing experience, it will be something that you pass down the generations, so take the opportunity to record your thoughts, feelings and plans, now that it has happened. Towards the end of this week you will be focusing on the SPAG features important for writing a year 6 standard diary entry.
Though the above ppt. relates to the war, and writing from the perspective of, for example, a refugee (something we have done earlier in the year), the checklist of features is useful and the link with a previous topic will help you to remember the work we have already completed.
By following the English on the Oak National Academy website, you will complete both reading and spelling activities that link with your instruction writing genre. Please remember the year 5/6 spelling words as a base for what to be learning and applying in your writing.
Check out spelling frame for work relating to the year 5/6 spelling words, there are also pages linked to the 3/4 spelling words if you are currently brushing up on these. It would be very useful if you would spend time this week looking at the spelling rules 37 (year 5/6 words) and 11/12 (year 3/4 words) which link to -ous endings.
Maths
Continuing with the White Rose this week the unit of work that is being covered is division and multiplication. I hope that you are still able to access the video tutorials, if you are having any trouble at all in accessing the work then please let me know and I will help in any way I can!.
Hopefully you are accessing some of the problems on the nrich website, please continue with those mentioned last week, otherwise, the nrich website contains plenty of home learning to support you at home.
Transition
I know that you, as year 6, have plenty to think about at this time of year even without a global pandemic! I have added, this week, resources for your parents to read through and potentially work through with you linked to your transition to secondary school. Pleas be aware that we will be doing plenty in school to help with the transition when we next see you, but in the meantime, why don’t you think about the best parts of Primary school and be inspired, this week, to produce a creative interpretation of this. Art, Drama, Writing, Music, whatever it is, celebrate your time at Primary school and potentially use the lesson as a way of talking through any worries or concerns with your parents. We have all been through it, it is good to talk.
