Sports Premium

What is the PE and Sports Premium Funding?

The government is providing over £450 million each year (2013–2025) to improve the quality of PE and sport in primary schools. This funding is jointly provided by the Department for Education, the Department of Health, and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. The money goes directly to schools and can only be spent on developing sport and PE provision.

Purpose of the Funding

Schools must use the Sport Premium to enhance the provision of PE and sport, but they have the freedom to decide how this is achieved. At Winshill Village, we use the funding to provide a wide range of opportunities that encourage all children to enjoy being active and develop lifelong healthy habits.

Our Vision

Our vision is that every child leaves primary school physically literate, with the knowledge, skills, and motivation to lead a healthy, active lifestyle and to take part in sport and physical activity throughout their lives.

The funding is designed to support schools in making a sustainable improvement in the quality of PE and sport, benefitting both current pupils and those who will join us in future years.

How Winshill Village Use the Funding

We use the PE and Sport Premium to:

  • Develop and expand the range of PE and sport activities already on offer

  • Invest in improvements that will benefit pupils in years to come

  • Hire qualified sports coaches to work alongside our teachers

  • Provide staff with specialist training and resources to improve PE teaching

  • Introduce new sports and activities to encourage greater participation

  • Organise sporting activities and competitions with other schools and academies
