"If a child can't learn the way we teach, maybe we should teach the way they learn."

Vision

At Winshill Village Primary & Nursery School, we are committed to providing high-quality teaching and learning through our school values. We believe that all children, including those identified as having special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), have the right to a broad, balanced, and inclusive curriculum that enables them to achieve their full potential and participate fully in every aspect of school life.

We value all children equally. We strive to eliminate prejudice and discrimination and to create a safe, nurturing environment where every child can flourish, feel a sense of belonging, and develop the confidence to succeed. Inclusion at Winshill Village is about equality of opportunity for all learners and celebrating the strengths and individuality that each child brings to our school community.

We recognise that many pupils may experience difficulties with their learning or development at some stage in their school career, whether long or short term. We respond with compassion and flexibility, taking into account their varied life experiences and needs. High-quality, differentiated teaching is at the heart of our approach, supported by targeted and personalised provision where required.

In line with the SEND Code of Practice (2014), we are committed to meeting needs across the four broad areas:

  • Communication and interaction

  • Cognition and learning

  • Social, emotional and mental health

  • Sensory and/or physical

Our approach is underpinned by:

  • Removing barriers to learning and ensuring access to the curriculum, environment, and wider school life.

  • Partnership with pupils and families, recognising that their views and aspirations are central to decision-making.

  • Early identification and timely support through our graduated response of Assess, Plan, Do, Review.

  • Collaboration with external agencies to ensure a strong, multi-professional approach to supporting children.

  • Ongoing professional development for staff, equipping them with the expertise needed to meet diverse needs.

Through this commitment, we aim to nurture determination, empathy, aspiration, and growth in every child, ensuring that all learners feel valued, included, and empowered to succeed.

Aims and Values

At Winshill Village Primary & Nursery School, our aims and values reflect our commitment to inclusion, equality, and high expectations for every learner. We are dedicated to ensuring that all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), are able to achieve their potential and participate fully in school life.

We aim to:

  • Create an inclusive environment where the needs of every child are met so they can achieve their potential and learn alongside their peers.

  • Actively listen to, respond to, and value the views of parents, carers, and pupils, fostering confidence, trust, and strong partnerships.

  • Set out clear expectations and responsibilities for all partners involved in supporting children with SEND.

  • Maintain a high level of staff expertise through targeted, ongoing professional development to ensure effective provision for all pupils.

  • Provide support for pupils with medical conditions, ensuring they are fully included in school life through close collaboration with health and social care professionals.

  • Clarify the roles and responsibilities of all staff in delivering high-quality provision for pupils with SEND.

  • Make reasonable adjustments that enable all children to access every aspect of the curriculum and wider school life.

  • Work in cooperation with the Local Authority and external agencies, ensuring a collaborative, multi-professional approach to supporting vulnerable learners.

These aims are underpinned by our school learning statement:

“Winshill Village: A Place to Dream Big and Learn Without Limits.”

At Winshill, to Dream Big means to embrace Discover, Respect, Effort, Aspiration, Mindfulness, Belonging, Independence, and Growth. These values shape our inclusive ethos and ensure that every child feels valued, inspired, and empowered to flourish.
